Firsts are always exciting. The first for Ms. Becky Conard is her first teaching position beyond student teaching. She filled the vacant position left by Mrs. Lenessa Keehn. Although, if you look at Conard’s schedule, you will see several different classes than previously offered.
Previously, Conard did her student teaching at Viborg-Hurley, where she taught 5th-8th grade math. Her schedule now includes 6th-12th family consumer sciences, nutritional sciences, career exploration, and human services.
Originally from Moorhead, Minnesota Conard attended University of South Dakota where she obtained her Bachelor of science degree in elementary education, with endorsements in math, health science, and family and consumer science.
Conard expressed a desire to continue her education. She said, “I want to go back and get my masters in career and technical education, then be a residency instructor. A residency Instructor teaches student teachers and watch them teach, so I would be a teacher’s teacher.”
She feels that the biggest challenge teachers face today is a “work life balance.” Some other facts to know about her are when she was younger, she wanted to be an ultrasound tech. If she could take her students on a field trip anywhere in the world it would be any national park, but more specially Zion National Park.
Her goal for this year is to just make it through. She lived in Minnesota, where she grew up playing hockey, and eventually coached a team. What makes her day is when she gets to inspire a student. Lastly, her must have smartphone apps are Spotify, Snapchat, and Gardenscapes, where she recently achieved level 13,330.
