Mr Sander took his robotics club to Douglas for the first vex competition of the year.
The competition was exciting and emotional. Participants Drew , Isaac , Ethan , Joseph , Brandon and team dad Duane Hess. The team began with some great scores putting them in second. As the day progressed the robot took a beating. Modifications were made and drivers were challenged. The team made the top 8 for selection to the alliance. The team then progressed to the semi-finals and took on the world champions from Harrisberg but overall Mr. Sander was very impressed with the team's performance on a first-year effort.
Lead Deadwood had a Vex team with Mr. Cunningham and the club is excited to compete again after a year without.
Vex robotics is a metal robot with motors, sensors, and a controller (brain). The students have a specific game released every year with new obstacles. The team must build, test, and compete with 3 other robots. The first 15 seconds is autonomous (self-driving). Then the teams can use up to 2 gaming remotes to drive the robot. This year's task is to get the most orbs (balls) in the goal. The four teams are split into 2 alliances allowing teamwork. The two-minute match also has a bonus, to lift the robot off the ground for extra points. Come check out the club and let Mr. Sander know if you're interested in robotics.
