Students from all grades boogied down and turned up during the annual Snowball dance on Friday, Feb. 9. The dance was hosted by the student council and held in Gym 2 from 8pm-10pm. Before the dance began, students voted for Snowball royalty in the office prior to the dance. The winning royalty for the night included Freshman December G., Sophomore Jonathan B., Junior Christian J., and Senior Clairity P. When asked if he expected to win Snowball royalty, Johnston stated, “Yes and no. Yes, because everyone was trying to get me to do it, and no, because I didn’t think it was actually going to happen.” Attendees paid five dollars to go to the dance and had the option to drink punch and eat an assortment of cookies.
During the dance, attendees danced the night away to music played by DJs Allison K. and Clairity P. Many popular and recognizable songs were played including hit songs like “Yeah!” by USHER, “Gold Digger” by Kanye West, “Cupid Shuffle” by Cupid, and “Gas Pedal” by Sage the Gemini. Canida stated, “I wish there were more clean versions of songs that I like. There are so many good songs that we just can’t play because… bad words, yap yap, cuss cuss.”
Snowball, unlike prom, is a semi formal dance held at the school where most participants wore cocktail dresses or any kind of semi-formal attire that they’re comfortable in. The student council decorated Gym 2 as a snowy wonderland kind of theme for the dance. Freshman Dylan V. stated, “I felt like there could’ve been more decorations. The wall to take pictures was pretty and the balloons but, I felt like it was missing something.”
