Reminder that we will be having our One Act Play presentation for the community in our school theater tonight...it will start at 6:00. They perform at the Region meet this Wednesday as well in Belle Fourche - that meet starts at 9:00 and we perform at 2:15 that afternoon. Come out and support the Diggers! Mr. Nepodal

The middle school boys basketball game that was to be played last night vs. RC Christian at home has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 5th. Games will be played at Lead-Deadwood schools in gym 2 starting at 4:00. Thank you. Mr. Nepodal

Mrs. Amanda Bender is passing the Lead-Deadwood Shining Light on to Mrs. Kim Ostwald this week! “I am passing this on to a person who has an amazing work ethic and while most of their work seems like it’s behind the scenes you absolutely know when they aren’t there. The quality of work they do is unmatched – They’re the kind of person who you feel like can’t be replaced – like another person isn’t going to come in and do as good a job as they do. Besides being awesome at their job, they show kindness to staff by asking about how they’re doing. They are kind to the students and also hold them accountable in kind and respectful ways. I’m so grateful for this person because their small encouragements and kind words keep me going. And even though they have threatened to steal the lantern if it gets passed to them, I’m taking the risk because Kim deserves the recognition!” Congratulations, Kim!

The Black Hills Conference Wrestling meet scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 13th, has been postponed due to the weather - the make-up date has not been determined but when it it is decided, I will send out a second message. Thank you - stay safe and warm this weekend! Mr.Nepodal

The powerlifting meet scheduled for this Saturday, Jan. 13th in Baltic has been cancelled so we will no longer be going to this event. Thank you. Mr. Nepodal

Our high school basketball game vs. Wall that was scheduled for this Saturday, Jan. 13th has been postponed due to the weather conditions. Our game with Wall has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Feb. 13th and will start at 4:00 - games to still be played at Lead-Deadwood schools. Because we moved the Wall game to Feb. 13th, we had to move our scheduled game with Red Cloud to Saturday, Feb. 3rd in order to make the schedule work and keep both games. Our basketball games with Red Cloud will be at home as well and will start at 12:00 on Feb. 3rd. Please check the school calendar for further details on both of those games. Thank you. Mr. Nepodal

Our high school basketball game vs. Hill City scheduled for today, Jan. 11th, will still be played. We host them starting at 4:00 with C Girls in gym 2, JV Boys in Gym 1. 5:00 - JV girls in gym 1, 6:15 - Varsity girls, 7:30 - Varsity boys. Come out and support the Golddiggers! Mr. Nepodal

The middle school basketball game at Custer has been postponed due to the weather around Custer. It has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 13th - still at Custer and game time will still be 4:30 that day. Thank you. Mr. Nepodal

Update on our MS boys basketball game at Sundance on Jan. 23 - we will be playing 3 games that night: 4:30 - C team (mostly 6th graders) 5:30 - B team (6th combined with 7th graders) 6:30 - A team (8th graders) *if there are other changes for games we will be playing, I will send updates as they happen/change. thank you. This week, Mr. Dan Thomas has chosen Mrs. Amanda Bender to receive the Lead Deadwood Elementary Shining Light! “Mrs. Bender is very passionate about her job and genuinely cares about each and every student. She always steps up to the plate when she is needed and is always willing to embrace new ideas.”

Just a reminder that our HS girls and boys basketball teams travel to Belle Fourche tonight - C games start at 2:30 (boys play at the middle school, girls at the high school), JV games at 4:00 (boys at middle school, girls at high school), girls varsity at 5:30 and boys varsity to follow - both varsity games are at the high school. State Wrestling Pre-Order Tickets are now on sale through the athletic office - please contact Mr. Nepodal at paul.nepodal@k12.sd.us or at 605-771-8642 (email is best) to order tickets. All Session passes are $50 for adults (reserved seating) and $30 (students general admission). Tickets must be paid for at the time of the order or before the deadline of Wednesday, Jan. 17th. If you are unsure you are going to State Wrestling - there will be tickets available at the door of Premier Center during the event. State wrestling is Feb. 22-24th this year in Sioux Falls. Mr. Dan Thomas was chosen by Mr. Tom Paulsen as this week’s Lead-Deadwood Elementary Shining Light! “Mr. Dan Thomas is a shining light in school! He aids everyone in the building including administrators, teachers, and students when it comes to our computers. His door is always open to help with technology for teachers and students when something is not working correctly. He is also a great friend to many of us in our school. Thank you for your dedication to our school.”

This week’s Lead-Deadwood Elementary Shining Light, presented by Ms. Breann Hort, goes to Mr. Tom Paulsen! “Mr. Paulsen is a shining light in our school! He tells the best stories and never fails to put a smile on your face. His laugh is contagious, and he also has a positive spirit.”

Reminder - our girls and boys basketball teams host Kadoka tonight (Monday, Dec. 18) at the high school. It is a "throwback" night so the varsity games will be played in Gym 2 - bring the noise Digger Fans and cheer on the teams! Game times are 4:00 (JV games played in both gyms), 5:30 (girls varsity), and 7:00 (boys varsity). Should be fun - wear your old school letter jackets, sweaters, or anything from the school's past! The 6th grade students visited the Adam's House on Tuesday. We enjoyed seeing all the beautiful trees! Thanks to the Adam's House and the Deadwood Rec Center for having us!

Mrs. Abby Jacobs chose Miss Breann Hort to pass the Lead Deadwood Elementary Shining Light to this week. “Miss Breann Hort joined our school family with ease. Her classroom is relaxed and flexible in schedules. Students tell me that she is a very caring teacher and they love being in her classroom. They also said they know they can ask for help and she will help them. I enjoy working with her. Welcome to the Digger family and I hope your first year is going great!”
