Absentee Voting
If you are unable to cast a ballot on Election Day, you may be eligible to vote by absentee ballot. To vote by absentee ballot, a voter must request an absentee ballot application from the county in which they reside.
Registered voters can vote in-person prior to election day by bringing along a valid photo identification card (ID), such as a driver’s license, tribal photo ID, local high school ID, college or university ID from a South Dakota institution, or a passport or other federal government-issued ID. If a voter does not have a photo ID, they must sign a personal identification affidavit and will vote on a regular ballot.
In-Person Absentee Voting
Begins on March 25, 2024 and ends April 8, 2024 by 5:00 pm.
To absentee vote in-person, voters that live in the City Limits of Lead will cast their vote at the City of Lead Finance Office 801 W. Main Street Lead, South Dakota. Voters that live in the City Limits of Deadwood and voters who live outside city limits of Lead and Deadwood will cast their vote at the Deadwood City Hall Office 102 Sherman Street Deadwood, South Dakota.
The voter will present an acceptable form of identification:
SD Driver License or nondriver ID card
US Government photo ID (passport, military, VA, FBI, Secret Service, IRS, etc)
Tribal photo id
A current student id issued from a SD high school or SD accredited institution of higher learning
Absentee Voting by Mail
An absentee ballot may be mailed to a registered voter of the Lead Deadwood School District 40-1by sending an absentee ballot application to the county auditor’s office. The auditors will forward the request to the school district.
April 9, 2024, Election Day
Polls open 7:00 am-7:00 pm
Polling place for Deadwood will be at Deadwood City Hall located at 102 Sherman Street, Deadwood, South Dakota.
Polling place for Lead will be at Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center located at 160 W Main Street, Lead, South Dakota.
There will be public forum for City of Lead Commissioners and School Board Candidates on April 2, 2024, beginning at 5:30 pm at the Lead Deadwood High School Auditorium.
City of Lead Commissioners will begin at 5:30 pm.
