UPDATE! KDSJ will be livestreaming the varsity match of tonight's volleyball contest with Hot Springs. The link is https://www.youtube.com/@kdsj-tv I hope this helps.

There will be no livestream of tonight's home volleyball game. Liveticket, our provider, is experiencing software problems, and they are unable to get the livestream to work. We will keep you updated in the coming days, and if they are unable to serve us, we will explore other options to try to bring you Golddigger activities. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The Lead-Deadwood School District is holding a public informational meeting next Tuesday, July 30th regarding the proposed middle school office and CTE/STEM renovation. The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. in the middle school multipurpose room. The public can come to be informed on the project and to share their feedback with the board. The project has 3 goals, 1) increasing student safety by separating car traffic from bus loading and unloading areas, 2) better workflow and accessibility to middle school office, including a clear line of site from the office suite to the entrance, 3) creating designated space for middle school STEM and CTE courses.

Summer is an exciting time at school as we get ready for the upcoming school year. I'll keep everyone updated as we make progress on this project. We are ramping up our FACS (Family and Consumer Science) classes and remodeling the old Home Ec room with 5 kitchens to accommodate high school courses in nutrition and wellness, culinary arts, hospitality and tourism, and more.

It was great to see over 50 kids in the weight room each day on Monday and Wednesday this week for summer lifting. This is a good thing and a lot more summer activity than we've seen in our programs for a long time. The possible downside is that with all of the sport specific workouts, open gyms, all-sport lifting sessions, and private/paid camps and workouts, some of our kids are understandably overwhelmed. It is important that we have the right mentality. These are OPPORTUNITIES to get better, and should be treated like eating from a buffet. Typically you don't take everything off the buffet, but rather you pick what you want. As families it is important to talk with our kids about how much they can handle (probably more for older kids), and do what is appropriate. Also, with everything being optional, there are still opportunities for family activities this summer. I hope kids continue to take advantage of these opportunities, and I hope our kids have some fun this summer too. GO DIGGERS!

Parents of athletes, Summer workouts are in full swing and there are lots of opportunities in the district for our athletes this off season, from morning workouts for all athletes to sport specific training that coaches have communicated with athletes. All of the opportunities provided are beneficial for your student athlete(s) but they are not mandatory. Opportunities provided and expectations for attendance should be communicated by head coaches and will be different for high school and middle school athletes. Morning workout opportunities are provided every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for boys at 6, girls at 7, and open weight room times from 8-10. There will be makeup/extra opportunities on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well. These are for all athletes and will focus on speed/strength training. Thank you, Zack Clement MS/HS Assistant Principal Athletic Director Lead-Deadwood School District
