I'd like to send a follow-up from my post last week about the proposed middle school renovation. We have done a little survey of parents and staff about our goals for this project. 76% of respondents agree or strongly agree that the main entrance to the middle school can be inconvenient or hard to find. 83% agree or strongly agree that a plan should be developed to improve traffic flow around the middle school. 97% agree or strongly agree that they are excited about adding designated CTE and STEM areas in the middle school. The great news is that the LDSD Board of Education is taking steps to address these things soon!

The track meet scheduled for Saturday, April 27th in Sturgis has been cancelled due to the weather. It will be moved and ran on Tuesday, April 30th along with the JV meet that was scheduled that day in Sturgis. Thank you. Mr. Nepodal

Mrs. Amberly Rogers is passing the Lead-Deadwood Elementary Shining Light on to Mrs. Jessica Yushta this week! “We are very lucky to have this person in our building. She colors our kids lives and helps them to express themselves. She has such a positive impact on our students and employees. She is funny, caring, goes the extra mile, and never gives up. The Shining light goes to Mrs. Yushta.”

Due to the forecasted weather this week being better on Thursday than on Friday, our middle school Black Hills Conference track meet has been moved to be on Thursday, April 25th rather than on Friday, April 26th. Start time is 9:00 - meet will be hosted/held in Custer at their track and field complex. Good luck Diggers! Mr. Nepodal

Hey Diggers! This is Dr. Person, and I am trying out a new to me way of communicating, the LDSD Live Feed! I will be periodically sending out messages about some things that are going on in the Lead-Deadwood School District. I'd like to start with an exciting project that the school board is considering at the middle school. The project will create a new front entrance to the building that is more inviting, some renovated office space that is more accessible and functional, and a new location for picking up and dropping off students, so that the car traffic and the bus traffic are separated. Another added bonus to this project if it goes forward will be some new designated space in the middle school building for CTE and STEM education, designed specifically for hands-on learning. I will continue to push out more information in the next couple of weeks to fill you in on the project.

This week Mrs. Mandee Rantapaa has chosen to pass the Lead-Deadwood Elementary Shining Light on to Mrs. Amberly Rogers. "I have chosen this person because she is truly a behind the scenes person. You probably wouldn’t even know she's around unless you need her. She is the most patient person. Always makes time for everyone in every situation. I'm convinced she was a detective in a past life. She is able to figure out most problems with the vaguest of clues. She has a unique knack for asking the right question at the right time. She has taught me so much in the past year and I am incredibly grateful to be able to call her a colleague and even more thankful to be able to call her a friend. I am passing the Shining Light award to Amberly Rogers!"

This is our 2023-2024 Middle School FCA group. Our last meeting of the school year is Wednesday, May 15th during lunch in Mrs. Johnson's room. Join us to learn more about FCA for next school year.

LDHS Prom is April 20th at the Historic Homestake Opera House.

The golf meets scheduled for today and tomorrow have both been cancelled. The JV track meet scheduled for tomorrow/Tuesday April 9th has been cancelled as well. No make up dates are planned for these events. Thank you Mr. Nepodal

Update, there will be no school today in the Lead-Deadwood School District. Monday, April 8.

Due to the wet heavy snow that we received yesterday, and more predicted today, there will be a 2 hour late start today for the Lead-Deadwood School District. The city, county, and state crews have done a great job clearing streets and roads, but there may be some areas and private residences still having difficulty. We will update if anything changes. Thank you.

This week the Lead-Deadwood Elementary Shining Light is being passed from Mrs. Amy Vande Velde to Mrs. Mandee Rantapaa. "The shining light that I have chosen wears many hats and is truly amazing. I feel fortunate that she left her other career to come and work with our students. She is so patient, kind, fun, and caring with students and staff. I have been in awe of her for many years watching her raise her beautiful family, while working , traveling to sports, baking, running 2 different online stores, running a ranch, and still manages to have a great life outside of all of that. I am honored to have Mandee Rantapaa as our newest Shining Light."
